Senior Results - 6.7.13

1st XI v Preston Nomads (Home):

The first eleven entertained the all-conquering Preston Nomads on a stinking hot day at the MCG. Having won the toss Worthing batted and overseas player Malcolm Lake made hay with 74 and Ian Gooding 59 as the hosts amassed 233 for 8 declared from their 58 overs. All other batsmen got double figures as Worthing did well against a potent attack.

In reply Nomads reached their score just four wickets down against a slightly depleted home bowling outfit, with Luke Vinter claiming 2 for 45 and Andy Lutwyche 2 for 42. A haul of 12 points but Worthing drop to the foot of the table, although just 37 points separate bottom from 3rd.

2nd XI v St James (Away):

The second eleven cruised to victory at St James having won the toss and bowled first. The hosts achieved 199 all out with Martyn Swift claiming 6 for 39, Nick Oxley 2 for 70 and a wicket each for Shane Felton and Josh Wood.

Worthing chased down their target with the loss of just 3 wickets, although there was a little panic at 87 for 3, but 94 not out from Oxley and 60 not out from skipper Tom Lund saw the team home with plenty of overs to spare.

This result moved the team to third in the league.

3rd XI v Worthing Chippingdale (Home):

The third eleven welcomed local rivals Worthing Chippingdale to the Manor, with the visitors flying high in the league. Chips batted first and smashed 249 for 3 in 47 overs as spin took all the hosts' wickets through Adam Squires (2 for 55) and Jack Dunn (1 for 50).

The chase didn't start well but led to tense finish as Jacks Westlake (11 not out in 31 balls) and Dunn (17 not out from 56 balls) held off the visiting attack to ensure that the game ended in a draw. Squires top scored with 25.

4th XI v Chichester Priory (Away):

Another win for the fourth eleven as they bowled Chichester out for just 122. Sanjeev Kalra (3 for 15) and James Belton (3 for 36) were the main destroyers, but Glenn Harris claimed 2 for 11 whilst Andrew Culver and Josh Hyde claimed a wicket each.

Harris then hit 52 and skipper Adam Bastable 28 not out as they reached their target with little over 20 overs bowled.

This win takes the side up to third place in the division with a 27 point advantage on fourth.
