1st XI v Three Bridges:

This game was describes as a "must win" by Worthing skipper Darryl Rebbetts but his side didn't rise to the occasion against newly promoted Bridges. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a flat deck coupled with a lightning outfield. Their progress was steady but Worthing's bowling was disciplined as 226 for 5 was set, crucially declaring 2 overs early it would turn out. Luke Vinter took 2 for 61, Harry Dunn 1 for 30 as well as two run outs.

Worthing were rapidly the architects of their own downfall as the top order disintegrated to 56 for 6. Rebbetts (52) and Andy Lutwyche (28 not out from a seeming marathon 92 balls) put on over 50 for the seventh wicket and despite some resistance Three Bridges took the final wicket on the final ball of the 54th over, the second of the extra two overs they'd given themselves by declaring early.

Worthing need to buck their ideas up with the bat it they are going to stave off relegation.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Middleton:

A strip of the A259 greeted the teams at Middleton on Saturday, although the scorecard wouldn't suggest this. The hosts won the toss and batted but were all out for just 143, opening the door to a seemingly easy win on the batsman-friendly pitch.

The reply never really got going as Worthing capitulated 9 runs short of the target set.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Crawley Nayee:

A lively and noisy between the third team and freshly promoted Crawley Nayee side ended in a convincing win for Worthing. Interestingly there was only one LBW decision upheld as laws were debated on a regular basis, with differing accuracy of knowledge of them.

Tim Dunn chose to insert the visitors who took almost 4 hours to allow Worthing to complete their 49 overs with constant mid-pitch conferences and bat swaps in their total of 179 for 9. Adam Squires claimed 4 for 45, Kevin Punter 2 for 29 and Jack Dunn 2 for 45 with skipper Dunn executing a run out (you did read that correctly).

Dunn (54), Punter (53) and Dan Stuart (35) saw Worthing home just 4 wickets down.

Scorecard

4th XI v Rustington:

A good win by a convincing 6 wickets for the fourth team at Rustington. Having won the toss Adam Bastable elected to field, restricting their hosts to just 100 from their 40 overs. Greg Harris (2 for 8 from 8 overs), Sanjeev Kalra (2 for 18) and James Belton (2 for 24), plus a wicket each for Andy Culver and Robson Piper did the damage.

In reply Bastable (32) led from the front, ably assisted by Luc Hinton (21), Josh Quintais (14 not out) and Greg Harris (17 not out) saw the side home with almost 18 overs to spare.

A disappointing game at Priory Park as the first eleven lost by 7 wickets. Having been put in by the hosts Worthing made just 108 with number 10 Luke Vinter top scoring with 24 as the batting capitulated.

The hosts made their target just 3 wickets down, which included 2 run outs and a wicket for Vinter. The side are now just 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Senior Results - 15.6.13

1st XI v Cuckfield (Home):
A much needed win for the first eleven against newly promoted Cuckfield at the MCG. Having won the toss Worthing opted to bat and a typically whirlwind start saw Michael Gould hit 49 before getting out in the eleventh over. Matthew Green (22) gave him support and Malcolm Lake hit his first half-century for the club with a solid 67. Benn Challen (24), Ian Gooding (23) and Andy Lutwyche (19) helped the score reach 247 for 9 declared.

The reply started well as Lake took a wicket in the first over but after that spin dominated with Challen claiming 6 for 28 and young spinner Nick Oxley 3 for 49 as the visitors fell well short of their target and were all out for 160 and a much needed 30 points.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Cuckfield (Away):
The seconds eleven travelled to the picturesque setting of Cuckfield CC and secured a good win. Having won the toss Tom Lund opted to bowl and rolled the hosts for 189. Wickets were shared around Martyn Swift (2 for 31), Jamie Piper (2 for 60), Andy Reid (3 for 29) and Luke Barnes (3 for 24).

The game was won 6 wickets down with Tim Dunn (26), Gary Tester (61 not out), Brad Lewis (30) and 13 year old Josh Wood (50 not out) seeing the side home in what was a solid team performance.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Dome Mission (Home):
The third eleven didn't get enough runs against top of the table Dome Mission at the Manor. Only Lloyd Crathern (10), Kevin Punter (43) and Josh Goldsmith (32) reached double figures in a below par total of 103 all out.

The visitors reached their target 4 wickets down with Punter claiming 2 for 23 and a wicket each for Dan Stuart and Jack Dunn.

1st XI v Horsham (Away):

A slightly depleted side travelled to Horsham and elected to field under stand-in captain Luke Vinter on what looked a typically batsman friendly track. A whirlwind start from Michael Gould (60) at almost a run per ball, but a mini-collapse saw few hit double figures except Alex Harris (19), but the ship was steadied by Ian Gooding (46) who played excellently and Ollie Rogers (19) until the latter was dismissed. Andy Lutwyche (44 not out) took the score up to 205 when this seemed unlikely at 100 for 6.

Horsham struggled to their target and made it with 8 wickets down as Benn Challen claimed 4 for 88 and Vinter 3 for 42, and Malcolm Lake took the other wicket courtesy of a superb diving catch at slip from Challen.

Again the side didn't get the runs required to quite win the game, but a spirited effort with the ball and in the field almost reaped unlikely reward.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Hellingly (Home):

Worthing breezed to an easy win as Hellingly opted to bat and succumbed for just 58 in the face of some solid bowling from the hosts. Martyn Swift took 5 for 6 from 7 overs and Andy Reid 4 for 16, including a hat-trick, with Shane Felton claiming the other wicket.

Reid (29) and Brad Lewis (22 not out) knocked of the runs in under 15 overs to give Worthing a 30 point haul. Little more to say!

Scorecard

3rd XI v Aldwick (Away):

Skipper Tim Dunn won the toss and elected to bat as Worthing scored 199 all out. Dunn (47), Kevin Punter (43), Glenn Harris (35), Josh Wood (23) and Rob Whittington (17) all got starts and possibly should have taken the score well over 200 hundred.

Aldwick reached their target just 5 wickets down with Jack Dunn (2 for 26), Punter and Harris taking the wickets.

Scorecard

4th XI v Horsham Trinity (Home):

Not on the website at the time of writing, but they won!

1st XI v Sussex Development XI - 2.6.13

Another disappointing batting performance blighted this game for the second time over the weekend.

The Sussex youngsters won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good surface for the willow. And so it proved with Darryl Rebbetts turning (pun intended!) to spin after just 12 overs. Mason Crane bowled 23 consecutive overs claiming 6 for 76 and Luke Vinter coming back to claim 3 for 28 in a tight second spell as the visitors racked up what seemed a below par 211 all out.

Worthing's reply started pretty well despite losing Michael Gould early on, as Matt Green (30) and Matt Machan (78) appeared to be guiding the hosts to victory, but they both went in quick succession and triggered something of a collapse with only Malcolm Lake (22) really denting the total. Despite a bullish 22 not out from Andy Lutwyche at the end the reply ended 13 runs short.

Senior Results - 1.6.13

Not a great weekend for Worthing CC as they came second in each match.

1st XI v Roffey (Away):
The first eleven don't do boring games and this was yet another game that went down to the wire as the hosts crept over the line on the last scheduled ball of the day having scored 15 off the final over the get there.

Having lost the toss Darryl Rebbetts' men were asked to bat and got off to a good start through Michael Gould (68), Matt Green (46) and Matt Machan (27), but a middle order collapse left just Nick Ballamy (26) to offer some resistance as a below par score of 228 was posted on the fast-scoring ground.

Worthing took wickets at regular intervals but it wasn't quite enough as Luke Vinter (2 for 48) and Machan (2 for 77) tried in vain to claim he points. Nick Oxley and Ballamy took a wicket each and there were two run outs, but the highlight was perhaps Gould's one-handed catch to dismiss Rohit Jagota.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Roffey:
Worthing didn't get enough runs at the Manor against Roffey 2nd XI as the twos went down by 5 wickets. Worthing were put into bat and although a few got starts only posted 152. Brad Lewis (40), Luke Barnes (32), Gary Tester (35) and John Kaye (26) set up a decent score but one or more should probably have pushed on. A tailend collapse from 152 for 5 to 152 all out didn't help.

Martyn Swift bowled a tight spell taking 2 for 11 from 7 overs, and there was a wicket each for Tester, Shane Felton and Jamie Piper but it was in vain as Roffey reached their target with ease.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Barns Green:
The third eleven were soundly beaten against Barns Green as the visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Injury to Paul Westlake in the first over of the game didn't help as Barns Green racked up 247 for 1 declared with Adam Squires taking the only wicket.

The reply started well with Tim Dunn finally getting some runs with 82 and Tom Chambers 34, but after that resistance was minimal with only Sam Greenrod (16) reaching double figures as Worthing succumbed for 197.

Scorecard

4th XI v Barns Green:
Batting once again was the issue (it seems to be a common theme for every team at the moment!) at Barns Green. The hosts opted to bat and notched 169 for 7 with James Belton (3 for 31) and Greg Harris (2 for 31) being the main threat. Robson Piper and Glenn Harris took a wicket each.

The reply stuttered to 100 all out with Yasir Iqbal (18) top scored and Josh Hyde hit 17 as no-one pushed on.
