Senior Results - 17.8.13

1st XI v Cuckfield (Away):
This game was blighted by the weather and a poor surface. Having won the toss Darryl Rebbetts elected to field and Worthing found early success with a wicket each for Malcolm Lake and Luke Vinter leaving the hosts 19 for 2, but they recovered with some very intelligent batting from overseas Big Bash player Cameron Borgas (Cricinfo Profile Here) who scored a classy hundred whilst wearing a number of deliveries. Benn Challen picked up two wickets as Cuckfield declared on 225 for 4 with the rain beginning to fall leading to an extended tea break.

Worthing's innings got off to a poor start with the early loss of Matt Green, but Lake hit 4 fours from an over before the rain came again leading to another hour's delay. Despite attempting to continue, the conditions were made very clear as Andy Reid literally went flying whilst attempting a single and the umpires abandoned the game giving both sides 10 points each and hope of escaping relegation for Worthing.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Cuckfield (Home):
Tom Lund opted to bowl having won the toss with Cuckfield amassing 201 for 5. Jamie Piper bowled well in taking 2 for 24 and there was a wicket each for Martyn Swift, Harry Dunn and Ollie Rogers.

A short delay for rain then came about but only 4 overs were lost as Worthing reached their target with the loss of just 2 wickets with the main contributor being Gary Tester who both won the game and notched up his century with the same shot. Ollie Rogers (33) and Lund (32*) contributed towards the win.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Dome Mission (Away):
The 3rd XI was cancelled due to travellers having pitched up on the Dome Mission home ground.

Scorecard

4th XI v Porstlade (Home):
The 4th XI enjoyed a win to keep up their hopes of sneaking into a promotion spot. Adam Bastable won the toss and opted to bowl first, skittling Portslade for just 147. Andy Culver took 3 for 32, James Belton 3 for 42, Robson Piper 2 for 15 and a wicket a-piece for Sanjeev Kalra and Rob Whittington.

The reply reached its target with 6 wickets down. Glenn Harris hit 69 and Kalra 22 not out in just under 33 overs.

1st XI v Roffey (Home):
Another day where lacklustre batting saw another opportunity to climb off the bottom of the table slip from their grasp. Having won the toss Darryl Rebbetts opted to bowl first on a pitch that had been underwater the previous morning due to a torrential downpour.

The bowlers kept it tight and were dutifully backed up by their fielders as Roffey amassed 192 all out from 57.1 overs. Luke Vinter wrapped up the tail in taking 4 for 49, Andy Lutwyche 2 for 62 from 22 overs, Benn Challen 2 for 27 and Harry Dunn 1 for 21 in an excellent spell for the young spinner.

Worthing's reply started poorly and rarely got going as they succumbed for just 82. Only three players made double figures: Matt Green 24, Benn Challen 16 and Rebbetts top-scored with 31.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Roffey (Away):
The 2nd XI travelled to Roffey and ended up drawing a high-scoring game. The hosts won the toss and opted to bat, racking up 257 for 6. Ollie Rogers bowled 18 unchanged overs in taking 3 for 82, Nick Oxley took 2 for 51 and Nick Gunning 1 for 59.

The reply fell short at 228 for 8 with plenty getting starts but not quite getting the really big innings that would possibly have seen their side over the line. Tom Lund hit 71, Stuart Carter 51 and Ollie Rogers 36.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Barns Green 1st XI (Away):
Barns Green moved off the bottom of the table with this victory over Worthing. Having won the toss the hosts opted to bat, finishing on 208 for 8 from their 49 overs. Dan Stuart was the main threat for Worthing in claiming 3 for 28, Kevin Punter 2 for 60 and a wicket each for Adam Squires and Jack Westlake.

The Worthing reply got off to the worst possible start as they were 14 for 4 but Punter (27), Josh Goldsmith (17) along with Glenn Harris (10), Stuart (13) and Squires (14) made the score respectable but not competitive as the side were bowled out for just 119.

Scorecard

4th XI v Barns Green 2nd XI (Home):
Adam Bastable won the toss and elected to field first. Barns Green used their 40 overs to hit 182 for 7 with Andy Culver taking 3 for 46, Sanjeev Kalra 2 for 44 and youngster Robson Piper 2 for 37.

The reply managed just 131 for 9 with Bastable top-scoring with 31, but there were also contributions from Lloyd Crathern (27), Rob Whittington (19) and Kalra (24).
