Another disappointing batting performance blighted this game for the second time over the weekend.
The Sussex youngsters won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good surface for the willow. And so it proved with Darryl Rebbetts turning (pun intended!) to spin after just 12 overs. Mason Crane bowled 23 consecutive overs claiming 6 for 76 and Luke Vinter coming back to claim 3 for 28 in a tight second spell as the visitors racked up what seemed a below par 211 all out.
Worthing's reply started pretty well despite losing Michael Gould early on, as Matt Green (30) and Matt Machan (78) appeared to be guiding the hosts to victory, but they both went in quick succession and triggered something of a collapse with only Malcolm Lake (22) really denting the total. Despite a bullish 22 not out from Andy Lutwyche at the end the reply ended 13 runs short.

Senior Results - 1.6.13
Not a great weekend for Worthing CC as they came second in each match.
1st XI v Roffey (Away):
The first eleven don't do boring games and this was yet another game that went down to the wire as the hosts crept over the line on the last scheduled ball of the day having scored 15 off the final over the get there.
Having lost the toss Darryl Rebbetts' men were asked to bat and got off to a good start through Michael Gould (68), Matt Green (46) and Matt Machan (27), but a middle order collapse left just Nick Ballamy (26) to offer some resistance as a below par score of 228 was posted on the fast-scoring ground.
Worthing took wickets at regular intervals but it wasn't quite enough as Luke Vinter (2 for 48) and Machan (2 for 77) tried in vain to claim he points. Nick Oxley and Ballamy took a wicket each and there were two run outs, but the highlight was perhaps Gould's one-handed catch to dismiss Rohit Jagota.

Brad Lewis (40), Luke Barnes (32), Gary Tester (35) and John Kaye (26) set up a decent score but one or more should probably have pushed on. A tailend collapse from 152 for 5 to 152 all out didn't help.
Martyn Swift bowled a tight spell taking 2 for 11 from 7 overs, and there was a wicket each for Tester, Shane Felton and Jamie Piper but it was in vain as Roffey reached their target with ease.

The third eleven were soundly beaten against Barns Green as the visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Injury to Paul Westlake in the first over of the game didn't help as Barns Green racked up 247 for 1 declared with Adam Squires taking the only wicket.
The reply started well with Tim Dunn finally getting some runs with 82 and Tom Chambers 34, but after that resistance was minimal with only Sam Greenrod (16) reaching double figures as Worthing succumbed for 197.

4th XI v Barns Green:
Batting once again was the issue (it seems to be a common theme for every team at the moment!) at Barns Green. The hosts opted to bat and notched 169 for 7 with James Belton (3 for 31) and Greg Harris (2 for 31) being the main threat. Robson Piper and Glenn Harris took a wicket each.
The reply stuttered to 100 all out with Yasir Iqbal (18) top scored and Josh Hyde hit 17 as no-one pushed on.

1st XI v East Grinstead (Home):
I think it's fair to say that the first team were brought to earth with a bump as their unbeaten start came to an end against title contenders East Grinstead at the MCG. Despite heavy overnight rain the pitch was a belter and Darryl Rebbetts opted to bowl first having won the toss.
A reasonably tight start saw Jamie Piper take his first wicket in the first eleven but Tim Davey, former Worthing overseas player Ben Cameron's protege from Australia smashed 180 as EG amassed 334 for 5 in their 58 overs, endangering the cars in the car park on more that one occasion. Matt Machan picked up to wickets, with Malcolm Lake and Matt Green taking the others.
Worthing'r reply never really got going and started in the worst possible way as Green was run out without facing and wickets fell steadily until Alex Harris (44) and Darryl Rebbetts (13) hung around. Worthing eventually succumbed for just 109.
Well and truly beaten by a better team on the day.

Having been put into bat Tom Lund's side lost early wickets but the skipper himself and Gary Tester steadied the boat. Lund was out for 38 but Tester went onto score 104 which included 10 fours and 5 sixes and take the total up to 189 for 8 from 53 overs.
In reply the hosts held on for the draw at 154 for 9. Shane Felton took 3 for 53 and Luke Barnes 2 for 24, with a wicket each for Martyn Swift, Tester and Kevin Punter.

Seniors Results - 18.5.13
A clean sweep for all the senior sides this weekend! Excellent!
1st XI v Hastings & St Leonards Priory:
The 1st XI only play in nail-biters! A win by just 3 runs at Horntye Park in Hastings saw the team climb to second in the table and continue their unbeaten start. Having won the toss Darryll Rebbetts opted to have a bat the visitors found two-paced pitch that offered the spinners a decent amount of encouragement. A few got a start but failed to make Hastings pay, namely Andy Reid (11), Malcolm Lake (32), Rebbetts (37), Alex Harris (20) and Ian Gooding (24) as Worthing limped to 156 all out.
A slightly wayward start from Worthing with the ball allowed Hastings to get off to a decent start but then wickets fell in clusters as Lake (2 for 29) made inroads. The turning point (pun intended) came when young left arm spinner Harry Dunn was introduced to the attack. Making his debut Dunn claimed 5 for 17 from 10 overs and left Luke Vinter to wrap up the tail with 2 late wickets to finish with figures of 3 for 28.
A famous victory that led to Vinter waving his shirt in the air as the rest of the team chased him!

For the second time this season the opposition failed to raise a side against our 2nd XI, which is exceptionally frustrating for the team and the club, although the league apparently have bigger fish to fry!

Worthing travelled to Eastergate in a bid to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Having been stuck in by the hosts they lost skipper Tim Dunn early on but Lloyd Osland (26) steadied the ship with Tom Lund (57), with contributions from Marc Hinton (20) and Dan Stuart (19) as the visitors reached just 166.
Eastergate's reply barely got going as they crumbled for just 112 all out. Paul Westlake was the pick of the bowlers once again, taking 6 for 30, ably supported by Stuart (2 for 22) and wicket each for Roger Shaw and Jack Dunn.

The 4th XI achieved their first win of the season over St Andrews at the Manor. Having won the toss skipper Adam Bastable elected to bowl which proved an astute move as the visitors tumbled to 115 all out. Every bowler had joy on the wicket front with Greg Harris claiming 3 for 19, Jack Westlake 2 for 19 and James Belton 2 for 21. Adam Squires, Robson Piperand Adrew Culver took a wicket each.
The chase was relatively straight forward and Worthing achieved this wit the loss of just one wicket. Glenn Harris scored an aggressive 62 not out aided by Luc Hinton with 32 not out.
A solid performance!

1st XI v Brighton & Hove (Home)
A frustrating draw for Worthing first team after their famous victory last week as the visitors held on nine wickets down, and only 10 runs short of their target. Having won the toss Darryll Rebbetts opted to bat on a firm surface with a green tinge from overnight rain. Brighton & Hove made the most of the helpful early conditions to reduce Worthing's top order to 8 for 4 but a solid partnership between Rebbetts (99 not out) and recalled Alex Harris (43) of 117 rescued the innings as the hosts reached 188 all out.
In reply the visitors were watchful in the face of some tight bowling. John Glover was the pick of the home attack picking up 4 for 66, Luke Vinter (2 for 28), Benn Challen (2 for 44) and Andy Lutwyche (1 for 16) took the other wickets. A second win was a possibility had chances been held in the outfield so the hosts had to settle for 10 points.

This was the first ever league fixture between the two clubs, and skipper Tom Lund won the toss and elected to bowl, finishing Findon off for 125. Spinners were the winners as Harry Dunn (3 for 29) and Nick Oxley (3 for 20) had plenty of joy. Shane Felton picked up 2 for 35 and there was a wicket each for Martyn Swift and Jamie Piper.
Worthing's reply was stuttering at 42 for 5 with only Lloyd Crathern (20) the only one ro reach double figures before a torrential downpour made play impossible as standing water lay in the bowlers footmarks.
A draw then and 10 point a-piece.

A low scoring encounter as Worthing 3rds won their first game of the season. Having lost the toss Worthing set about the Adelaide batting line up with the Westlake show. Experienced (old) seamer Paul Westlake rolled back the years taking 7 for 22 in 15 overs, and youngster Joe Westlake completed the rout taking 3 for 38 as the visitors were all out for 89.
The reply got off to the worst possible start as skipper Tim Dunn opted to leave the second ball of the innings and was out LBW. 13 year old Josh Wood made an impressive 28 before Marc Hinton (30) and Dan Stuart (20) saw their side over the line,
