U15 Match Report Worthing v Arundel 28th August
Worthing (157 for 7 after 25 overs) beat Arundel (68 all out after 24.1 overs) by 89 runs
Worthing U15s secured the WACA Bowl League title making it 4 wins in 4 as they put on an impressive performance with bat and ball in their final match of the season. Worthing won the toss and elected to bat against an Arundel side fielding a few up and coming players that will no doubt be making their mark in the future. Worthing got off to a solid enough start putting on 27 for the for the first wicket, James Allen going on to achieve a retirement score playing solidly for his 25. The run rate reached new heights while Ollie Carpenter and Nick Ballamy were together with both batsman reaching their retirement scores in under 20 balls. Arundel's opening bowler Keelan Shoulders bowled well to taking 1 wicket in his 5 overs for just 18 runs while Sam Temple picked up 3 wickets with his brand of off-spin but there was no holding Worthing as they charged on passing 150 in the 24th over.
With an almost impossible target to beat, Arundel scored quickly from the off but the fall of the 1st wicket in the 4th over signalled a batting collapse as the next 6 wickets fell in as many overs. Martyn Swift set things in motion with 2 wickets in three balls but it was Sam Greenrod, who did most damage, coming away with 5 wickets for 16 runs on the day. Sam Temple offered some resistance for Arundel achieving his own retirement score but even a brief rain shower in the latter half of the innings couldn't prevent the inevitable as Worthing closed out the match in the final over when Harvey Von Biel took a catch at backward square for the last wicket. With Pagham confirming they are unable to honour their fixture, Worthing finish unbeaten at top of the table. Well done boys, take a well earned rest.

29.7.11 - U15s v Goring U15s
Goring (98 for 4 after 20 overs) lost to Worthing by 10 wickets (99 for 0 after 16.3 overs)
A fine Summer's evening greeted the teams at Fernhurst Drive for Worthing's 2nd U15 league game of the season. On what proved to be a favourable batting wicket, Worthing's opening seamers, Martyn Swift and Jamie Packer, bowled well restricting the home side to just 20 after 6 overs. However, a hefty amount of short-pitched bowling followed, allowing the runs to flow more easily. Two retirements from Harry Anstead and Alex Jones got the Goring innings back on track which was further boosted by Sam Edney with a quick fire 15 off 14 balls. By the end Worthing were looking a little flat in the field unlike Goring's total which had risen to 98.
Worthing's reply started steadily but once openers Harry Dunn and Aaron Tugnutt got into their stride, their was only one outcome. Between them they found the boundary on 7 occasions and by the time they had both retired out, the total had reached 72. And so it was that Martyn Swift and Robbie Anderson would knock of the last few runs to conclude a strong win for Worthing albeit with some areas to work on in the bowling and fielding departments.

22.6.11 - U15s v Bognor
Worthing 114 for 4 after 20.0 overs beat Bognor by 14 runs, (100 all out after 18.5 overs)
Worthing travelled to Bognor for their first U15 league match of the season curtailed to 20 overs per side enforced by the strained efforts of the management team to race across the county during rush hour in a valiant attempt to beat the setting sun. Worthing duly won the toss and elected to bat first. Harry Dunn gave the visitors a positive start, scoring a sprightly 24 before he was out in the 7th over with the score on 38 . Martyn Swift (25) and Robbie Anderson (26) both played steadily forming a good partnership in the core of the innings taking the score towards the 100 mark before they both retired not out as the innings moved towards its conclusion. Ollie Carpenter entered the fray and injected some quick fire hitting including a near 6, straight back over the bowlers head. When Ollie was out for 17 off just 8 balls at the end of the 20th over, Worthing's total had reached a respectable 114.
Martyn Swift's opening spell of 4 overs for 10 runs set the tone as Bognor set about the chase. Always slightly behind the run rate, the key to the match would be in the 2nd half of the innings; could Bognor hold their nerve or would Worthing's fielding crumble under the mounting pressure. In the end it would be Worthing's bowlers who would prevail; Harry Dunn's match turning 5 wickets for 15 proving decisive as Bognor's lower order fell away. Aaron Tugnutt with the gloves did particularly well once more claiming 4 stumpings including that of Bognor's only retirement, Ollie Adams, who returned at the fall of the 9th wicket only to dash it all away as he charged down the pitch in the fading light. Despite some occasional lapses in the field by Worthing, this was a well won victory against two evenly matched sides for which the boys should be congratulated.

3.6.11 - U15s v Chichester U15s - MCC National Cup
Worthing 119 for 6 after 20 overs lost to Chichester by 5 wickets, 120 for 5 after 20 overs.
Worthing came out 2nd best in this tightly contested Quarter-Final which went all the way to the last ball. Played on Friday evening under a perfect blue sky at the Manor, Worthing got off to a bright enough start having been put into bat. The two openers, Harry Dunn and Martyn Swift, had the score up to 52 after 7 overs but when they departed in quick succession, the run rate faltered as Worthing, partly through some careless play lost crucial wickets. Critically, 3 overs passed in the mid-innings with only 2 runs added and it was left to James Allen and Mason Crane in the lower mid-order to boost the total to a respectable, if not outstanding, 119 at the close, on what looked a good track.
Chichester got off to a solid enough start as their two openers, untroubled, took their reply past 50 in the 9th over. The arrival of Mason Crane, the pick of the Worthing bowlers, saw the first wicket fall on 52 and hereafter the game hung in the balance as runs and wickets were exchanged between the two sides. It has to be said that Worthing fielded very well throughout which only served to highlight the occasional lapse as the run chase gathered momentum. When the 5th wicket went down in the 18th over with the score on 107 the game looked to be within Worthing's grasp but with only 5 runs required from the last over, MOTM, Jim Wild, steered Chichester home with a single off the last ball.
