Senior Results - 5.7.14

Not a great week for Worthing CC to be honest, as the best result was a draw!

1st XI v Chichester Priory (Home):
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking surface. They opted to use all their 53 overs in amassing 260 for 9, scoring pretty slowly for the last 5 or so overs. The bowling figures weren't overly pretty, but Benn Challen took 3 for 63, Will Fazakerley 2 for 40 and a wicket each for Nick Ballamy and Andy Lutwyche.

The Worthing innings finished on 207 for 8 with a few threatening to win the game before stalling. Brad James scored 53 and Andy Reid 51, with 38 from the in-form Ian Gooding.

Scorecard

2nd XI v Chichester Priory (Away):
There were two centuries for the second week running for Tom Lund's second eleven. Losing two early wickets didn't stop Worthing amassing 250 for 2 from exactly 50 overs as Stuart Carter made 105 not out and Lund 103 not out.

The hosts achieved their target with 3 balls to spare and for the loss of 8 wickets. Jamie Piper claimed 5 for 60, with Carter, Shane Felton and Dave Leader also taking a wicket each.

Scorecard

3rd XI v Clayton & Belgrave Adelaide (Home):
Tim Dunn's men won the toss and elected to bat first but lost early wickets. They were saved by some youngsters in the form of Dan Stuart (52) and Harvey Von Biel (70) as a total of 197 for 7 was set for the visitors.

The visitors reached their target thanks to some lusty lower order hitting, but Paul Westlake claimed 3 for 41, Adam Squires 2 for 50 and a wicket each for Kevin Punter and Robson Piper.

Scorecard

4th XI v Felbridge & Sunnyside (Away):
Glenn Harris' men won the toss and decided to bat first on what was a drying wicket, and so it proved as they were skittled for just 92 in 29 overs, with Harris and Kieran O'Brien top-scoring with 20 each.

The hosts took less than 20 overs to reach their goal for the loss of a solitary wicket claimed by Andy Culver.

Senior Results - 6.7.13

1st XI v Preston Nomads (Home):

The first eleven entertained the all-conquering Preston Nomads on a stinking hot day at the MCG. All other batsmen got double figures as Worthing did well against a potent attack.

In reply Nomads reached their score just four wickets down against a slightly depleted home bowling outfit, with Luke Vinter claiming 2 for 45 and Andy Lutwyche 2 for 42. A haul of 12 points but Worthing drop to the foot of the table, although just 37 points separate bottom from 3rd.

The chase didn't start well but led to tense finish as Jacks Westlake (11 not out in 31 balls) and Dunn (17 not out from 56 balls) held off the visiting attack to ensure that the game ended in a draw. Squires top scored with 25.

Seniors - Star Wars Day Reports

First league games of the season and Worthing were hoping that the Force would be with them in their four games in the league.

1st XI v Preston Nomads (Away):
Once again the fixture conjured up a tricky start for Worthing at the reigning league champions, Preston Nomads. Darryl Rebbetts won the toss and elected to bowl for Nomads to rack up 238 for 9 from their 53 overs in a shortened game due to some lunch time rain In tghe wickets was Sussex batsman Matt Machan, making his league debut for the club, who took 3 for 45, John Glover took 2 for 45, with Benn Challen, Luke Vinter and overseas all-rounder Malcolm Lake all taking a wick a-piece.

Worthing were cruising in reply at 224 for 1 with Michael Gould (67), another debutant Matt Green (66) and Machan (84) inflicting the damage, but a collapse left Ian Gooding facing his first ball, which was the last ball of the game requiring 4 runs with every fielder on the boundary. The wicketkeeper somehow found a gap much to the delight of the team who stormed the pitch as Gooding aeroplaned around the outfield!

Historic win!

1st XI Scorecard

2nd XI v St James (Home):
St James couldn't raise a side and therefore conceded the game.

2nd XI Scorecard

3rd XI v Worthing Chippingdale (Away):
A new look 3rd XI under tactical genius and self-proclaimed "most successful captain in Worthing history" Tim Dunn started at local rivals Chips. Worthing were given first use of the wicket with the bat and started slowly, but Tom Lund (41), Nick Oxley (87 not out), Paul Westlake (yes you read that correctly - 19) and Jack Dunn (26 not out) rescued the innings and posted a total of 217 for 8.

Worthing got their hosts 9 wickets down but couldn't take the final wicket. Harry Dunn took 4 for 49 and Oxley 2 for 59, with a wicket each for Westlake and Jamie Piper.

3rd XI Scorecard

4th XI v Chichester Priory 4th XI (Home):
Skipper Adam Bastable stuck the visitors in having won the toss but a mixture of some sloppy fielding and powerful hitting saw Chichester pile up 230 all out from their 40 overs. Dan Stuart took 3 for 27 and James Belton 3 for 28 did most of the damage, with Greg Harris, Jack Westlake and Adam Squires all opening their wicket accounts for the season.

A great effort from Worthing to chase down the total saw them finish on 227 for 9 with Glenn Harris (73), Marc Hinton (58) and Neil Harris (23) the main contributors in what all agreed was a great game played in a good spirit.
