There were only two games this weekend as the 3rd XI and 4th XI both had free weeks.
1st XI v East Grinstead (Away):
Another loss and another lack of runs led to another defeat for Worthing at East Grinstead on Saturday. With heavy showers forecast the hosts won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good batting track. Worthing's bowlers kept their opponents on a tight rein with some disciplined bowling, limiting EG to 241 for 7 from their 58 overs, with only a short interruption for a light shower. Matt Green was the pick of the bowlers claiming 4 for 43, and there was a wicket each for Jamie Piper, Luke Vinter and Andy Lutwyche.
In reply only four Worthing batsmen reached double figures in what seems a habitual collapse. Green scored 18, Michael Gould top scored with 66, Ian Gooding maintained his good run of form with 44 and Lutwyche hit 18 at the end as Worthing fell for 182, batting in near darkness and rain for the final 10 to 20 overs of the game, a period which one umpire described as "ridiculous" out in the middle, but didn't deem it "ridiculous" enough to take the players off the field.
Worthing's batsmen will have to step up to the mark in a crucial game against fellow "bottom feeders" Roffey at the Manor next Saturday, and the weather cannot be blamed for the result that the hosts thoroughly deserved.
Scorecard
2nd XI v Ifield (Home):
Rain thwarted any result at the Manor Ground. Tom Lund won the toss and chose to field first, bowling the visitors out for 185 in 43 overs. Nick Oxley took 4 for 48, Martyn Swift 3 for 57 and Andy Reid 3 for 43.
The reply was only 8 overs old when the weather halted proceedings at 32 for 2 with Gary Tester on 17 not out.

1st XI v Hastings & St Leonards Priory (Home):
A fresh breeze meant that the weather was far more comfortable for the players although the pitch looked understandably dry. Worthing won the toss and elected to bat but were soon, perhaps predictably 11 for 3. Matt Machan (41) and Michael Gould (32) steadied the ship, plus contributions from Ian Gooding (33) and Luke Vinter (16) got Worthing to a potentially competitive 166 all out.
Hastings reached their target after 46 overs with the loss of 7 wickets as Benn Challen too 3 for 60, Vinter 2 for 36 and a wicket each for Malcolm Lake and Harry Dunn. Worthing remain bottom, buit the tightness of the league means that they are just a couple of wins from mid-table security.
Scorecard
2nd XI v Glynde & Beddingham (Away):
A comfortable 7 wicket win at the picturesque Glynde & Beddingham ground east of Lewes. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat but were rolled for just 152. Jamie Piper was the pick of the bowlers in claiming 4 for 37, but all those who bowled took victims as Martyn Swift pouched 3 for 36. Gary Tester 2 for 53 and Nick Gunning 1 for 17.
The chase was complete in the 27th over with all those who batted making a score. Tim Dunn (36), Luke Barnes (22) and Tester (52) with Stuart Carter (20 not out) and skipper Tom Lund (10 not out) seeing the side over the line.
Scorecard
3rd XI v Eastergate (Home):
Paul Westlake won the toss and elected to bat, but a few dubious decisions saw the home side manage just 171 all out. Josh Goldsmith hit a powerful half-century and many got a start but failed to go on when seemingly well set.
The reply achieved its goal for the loss of 5 wickets with Shane Felton (3 for 55) and Kevin Punter (2 for 25) claiming all the wickets between them. Worthing dropped into the relegation zone with a free week next Saturday.
Scorecard
4th XI v St Andrews (Burgess Hill) (Away):
Availability was an issue this week leading to the club being forced to scratch the 4th XI game so if you want regular cricket all you have to do is be available!

Batting was the let down for Worthing last weekend as every team came second!
1st XI v Brighton & Hove (Away):
Darryl Rebbetts lost the toss at The Nevill and Worthing were duly in the field first up. A good start with the ball despite Sussex first teamer Luke Wells dealing with balls on his legs mercilessly. A decent batting track, short boundary and lightning outfield meant the potential of a large score, but the hosts' nigh-on 58 overs produced 237 all out which was extremely gettable, although it could have been better with B&H at 140 for 7. Luke Vinter starred with the ball in taking 5 for 58, but Andy Lutwyche took 3 for 49 and Benn Challen, on his return from injury, took 2 for 65.
The batting never got going for the umpteenth week, as Malcolm Lake (22), Rebbetts (31), Alex Harris (33) and Ian Gooding (21) got starts but failed to capitalise. Only Challen, with a well worked 51 produced the sort of score that more should had and Worthing fell 30 runs short of their target.
Scorecard
2nd XI v Findon (Home):
A fixture where second played third in the league, but once again the batting let the home side down. Tom Lund won thetoss and elected to bat but once again many got starts but failed to kill the game off with a decisive innings as Worthing were all out for 131. Nick Oxley top scored with 44 and Gary Tester 39 but only 3 more made double figures.
Findon chased down the total for the loss of just two wickets, one for Oxley and the other a run out in what was a disappointing performance for Lund's side. Worthing remain in thrid spot but are now 40 points behind their local rivals.
Scorecard
3rd XI v Clayton & Belgrave Adelaide (Away):
Tim Dunn may have struggled to be the toast of his side having won the toss and fielded.especially as the hosts racked up 225 for 4 in just 44 overs. Jack Westlake, Dan White and Jack Dunn all took a wicket each plus a run out amounted to the four scalps.
The chase never really got going but there was always a chance whilst skipper Dunn was their, but no-one could stay with him as he ended up stranded on 127 not out. with only Dave Marshallsay (24) and Harry Hartley (10) making double figures.
Scorecard
4th XI v Broadwater (Home):
Another local derby at the MCG with Adam Bastable winning the toss and choosing to bowl. Broadwater notched up 179 for 9 from their 40 overs with Andrew Culver taking 4 for 26, Rob Whittington 3 for 6 and a wicket a-piece for Sanjeev Kalra and Robson Piper.
The chase didn't quite get there but a maiden fifty for Dan Turner (51) was a highlight but GlennHarris (25), Bastable (20) and Kalra (21) all chipped in tot a total of 153 for 7.

Scorecard
